Venture.Community

Organisation

A society of regional chapters, mutually owned by its members.

Venture.Community® is the trading name of The Venture Society Limited, a co-operative society registered with the FCA. Each region is mutually owned by its members and democratically operated by them.

The legal entity

The first Venture.Community® "Venture Society" was The Venture Society Ltd, founded in Sheffield, UK by Pete Hopton and 6 founding Fellows, it is a co-operative society registered with the FCA under registration number 5226. As a co-operative society with a non-profit clause, rather than an investor-owned company, any surplus is reinvested in the work of the community, and the members hold the votes that direct it.

The distinction matters. each community is owned by, and operated for the benefit of, its members. Instead of being "For the profit of shareholders", we view our organisations as "For the profit and success of the members".

Regional chapters

Venture.Community® operates as a federation of regional communities. Each is owned by, run by and run for its local members. Its events, its founders, its Supported Companies, but with the global federation supporting them too, reciprocally. Each regional community has its own democratic processes and its own regional capacity, with international collaboration.

Active communities today: the United Kingdom. Being constructed are Germany, and our United States communities in Arizona and Texas. Each community accepts members locally and forwards them into the wider Society.

The people who run it

Regional Champions

Each chapter is led by one or more Champions, Fellows who carry responsibility for the regional community. They approve pledges, review applications, and direct the local programme of events and acceleration. Champions are the operational face of the Society in their region and sit on our Global Congress.

Regional Secretary

Every community has a Secretary — the keeper of its records, governance, and statutory obligations. The Secretary is appointed under the by-laws of the community and is the official point of contact for matters of compliance, membership records, and chapter business. The role is distinct from the platform administrator: a Secretary may or may not also be a chapter Champion.

City Groups

Within each chapter, members may form City Groups. These are local cohorts in a single town or metropolitan area who meet, work, and build together at street level. City Groups are how we keep the human scale of an entrepreneurial community alive at every density.

Mutual ownership

Each region of Venture.Community is mutually owned by its members and democratically operated. This is the operating principle, not a slogan. It informs how we make decisions, how we handle surplus, how we deal with conflicts, and how we treat the founders we exist to support.

Self-help, democracy and equality, honesty and openness, social responsibility. Four key values that are our operational expectations. The community holds itself to these standards, and holds investors, contributors, specialists, fellows and founders to the same.
